This is an interesting question when you first start playing online poker on the mac. You’ll quickly find out there aren’t as many poker software as on Microsoft Windows. Basically, you’ll only have to make a choice between FulltiltPoker or PokerStars.

If you were already a pokerplayer on Windows, you probably know these two rooms as they also are very popular on that plaftorm.

The good thing with the mac plaftorm at the moment i write this article is that the choice is so reduced you’ll want to know a bit more about the differences between them. On Windows, there are SO many rooms, it can be overwhelming at first and could lead you into some problems if you chose one that has a bad reputation.

PokerStars and Fulltilt both have VERY good reputation, that’s also why they have a mac client. Only the most wealthy companies would develop a mac client.

The most straightforward thing to do first would be for you to try both of them And find out by yourself which one suits you best.

A clear win here for Full Tilt Poker. Their latest build comes with itunesque filters. Beginners will be greeted with a very well made “first time online” wizard tutorial.Overall, the software is more userfriendly than PokerStars which still has an “old school” type lobby.

Both clients are supported by Poker Copilot, the best mac poker tracker. And it’s basically a draw on table possibilities, customisation, etc

FULL TILT 1 / POKERSTARS 0

Room reputation :

It could be a draw here. The most well know pros are affiliated with Full Tilt, but some of them are with PokerStars. Simply by numbers, most pros are with FullTilt but PokerStars is often known for having more rookies. Full tilt high profile gamers can be decieving for beginners.

Signup bonus :

Both rooms offer a $600 bonus on signup (if you signup now, remember to enter MACHOLDEM on FullTilt and STARS600 on PokerStars). A few months ago, PokerStars signup bonus was only $50 but they have matched their signup bonus with FullTilt as they were probably losing most of new users. It could have been a clear win for Fulltilt here but it’s a draw.

Tournaments, game types

Fulltilt offers most of the oldschool and classic games, and offers more exotic types. Fulltilt also has the best FreeRoll tournaments and PokerStars Sunday tournaments are also very interesting. The advantage goes to FullTilt here for offering more game types

Overall winner : FullTilt Poker

Okay, so this was a very quick comparaison, not an indepth one, you’ll find other more precise comparaisons on google. And this is just a personal choice, i would have chosen PokerStars a few years ago but i really like how FullTilt changed. And remember, have fun playing poker, it’s just a game
